[Virtual] America after Afghanistan: Turning Point or Bump in the Imperial Road?

February 20, 2022 @ 10:30 AM 12:00 PM

Stephen Kinzer, a LSUS favorite, will speak on the topic, America after Afghanistan: Turning Point or Bump in the Imperial Road?   For a few weeks this summer Afghanistan was in the news.  The United States ended its longest war with a messy withdrawal.  Yet we remain deeply involved in the Middle East and surrounding regions.  Stephen Kinzer explains what has changed in our foreign policy, and what has not changed, following our long Afghan war.

Kinzer is the author of 10 books including The True Flag, The Brothers, Overthrow and All the Shah’s Men.  An award-winning foreign correspondent, he served as the New York Times bureau chief in Nicaragua, Germany, and Turkey.  He currently writes a world affairs column for the Boston Globe.  Kinzer spoke to us twice previously, in October of 2006 on the topic Overthrow: America’s Century of Regime Change and in November of 2009 on the topic Rwanda: From Genocide to Star of Africa? He lives in Boston.  He last spoke to us via Zoom in February of last year on the topic, New Direction or More of the Same? American Foreign Policy over the Next Four Years.
