May 16, 2021 @ 10:15 AM 11:30 AM

Lee Scheier, journalist, researcher and educator, will speak on the topic, Dark Money: The Billionaire Businessmen Koch Brothers’ Successful Mission to Turn America to the Right.  In 1975 the billionaire businessmen, Charles and David Koch, began an organized 45 year plan to turn America toward their conservative way of thinking.  Based on the book Dark Money by Jane Mayer, Lee Scheier reveals the detailed history of that successful quest, uncovering their brilliant under-the-radar tactics that led to our conservative Supreme Court.  Due to the subject’s complexity, the service will run 10 extra minutes.

Lee Scheier is a journalist and playwright. Originally from New York City, he moved to Chicago in 1987. As a journalist he wrote many stories for the Chicago Tribune, mostly for the Sunday magazine, including many long feature cover stories. He also wrote for Chicago Magazine and other publications. His play, Transference, was produced at the Mercury Theater in Chicago. He has just finished working on a musical, Myth America, working with a talented composer and lyricist.  From his journalism work he developed a love of researching stories which has led to his work as a lecturer.  He spoke to us in January of this year on the topic, The History of the Eugenics Movement in the U.S.
