[Easter] Joseph Priestley: Primitive Christianity
April 4, 2021 @ 10:15 AM – 11:30 AM
Jim Kenney, Founder of Global Lecture Hall, will speak on the topic, Joseph Priestley: Primitive Christianity. One of the leading English intellectuals of the 18th century and credited as one of the “discoverers” of oxygen, Joseph Priestley, was also a co-founder of Unitarianism in England and a strong supporter of the vitally important Philadelphia churches. A groundbreaking scientist and political radical, Priestley was also a leading theologian of the Dissenters, opponents of the Church of England. His major religious work, The Corruptions of Christianity, dismantled what he saw as the gradual, heretical transformation of Christianity from its original “primitive” communal origins. We’ll take a brief, but closer look.
Jim Kenney is recognized around the world as a pioneer and leader of the global interreligious and intercultural movement, serving from 1988-2002 as founding trustee and later as Global Director of the Parliament of the World’s Religions. He is currently engaged in a variety of Zoom educational projects, in particular, the Global Lecture Hall (https://www.jklecturehall.net). He was, for 45 years, the Executive Director of the groundbreaking adult educational center, Common Ground. Jim is the author of Thriving in the Crosscurrent: Clarity and Hope in a Time of Cultural Sea Change (Quest Books: May 2010), a hopeful, challenging, and inspiring vision of progressive cultural evolution in our time.
After services, from 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM, we will open Zoom for informal general discussion, as well as an opportunity to join a conversation group with Jim Kenney.
Please note: this service will be hosted via Zoom.
