Short Stories: Moral Quandaries and Ethical Dilemmas

April 2 @ 10:30 AM 12:00 PM

Alice Moody will speak on the topic, Short Stories: Moral Quandaries and Ethical Dilemmas.  She introduces the power of an often-overlooked genre of literature — short stories. After an overview of the genre through quotes, anecdotes, and examples, she will share some of her favorite stories and what makes them so memorable. She’ll describe how stories give voice to important issues reflective of cultures, societies, and relationships. Participants will come away with a better understanding of the provocative, unresolved nature of short fiction forces and how it forces readers to grapple with ideas of compassion, empathy, and morality.

Alice Moody is a professional writing coach and book discussion facilitator who has spent the past decade teaching independent writing workshops and running a variety of literary programs. Originally from St. Louis, Alice holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Johns Hopkins University and a Master of Arts in Teaching English from University of Chicago. Her belief in the transformative power of story serves as the underlying principle guiding her workshops, coaching sessions, book talks, and other offerings.
