Teaching Children to be Lifelong Volunteers

October 20, 2019 @ 10:30 AM 12:00 PM

Mary Roth and Lisa Axelrod, Co-Founders of The Kindness Connection (TKC), will speak on the topic, Teaching Children to be Lifelong Volunteers.  TKC is a local organization dedicated to teaching children about empathy and the value of giving back.  TKC believes that positive volunteer experiences early in life have the power to inspire individuals to make the practice of giving their time and resources to charitable and civic causes an intrinsic part of their lives.  TKC works with partner organizations to develop projects children can complete to benefit recipient organizations while having a hands-on learning experience.  Examples include decorating placemats to be delivered with meals for homebound elderly, room decorations for hospitalized veterans, and chew toys for shelter animals.

Mary Roth, Co-Founder, currently volunteers as The Kindness Connection’s Director of Development.  Mary serves as a resource teacher in the Math Department of Arlyn School, Highland Park.  Her prior experience includes teaching at Beacon Academy and Northwestern University.  Mary earned a BA in Economics and an MS in Secondary Math Education from Northwestern University.

Lisa Axelrod, Co-Founder and past Board President, is the Head of Kellogg Recruiting for the Boston Consulting Group.  Before joining BCG, she worked as a consultant at Deloitte.   Lisa holds a BA in English from Colorado College and an MBA from Kellogg.  Lisa currently serves on The Kindness Connection’s advisory board.
