The Spiritual Practice of Mindfulness as a Way of Cultivating Compassion for One’s Self and Others
November 3, 2019 @ 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to the Antique Modernism Show at the Community House, we will meet at Mallinckrodt Center, 1041 Ridge Rd., Wilmette, use south entrance.
Rebecca Bunn, MA, LCPC, therapist and meditation teacher, will speak on the topic, The Spiritual Practice of Mindfulness as a Way of Cultivating Compassion for One’s Self and Others. This workshop will introduce theory and practice from the renowned Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR) developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Mindfulness – the awareness that arises from paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally – is an innate human quality that can be developed through systematic practice. Mindfulness goes hand in hand with heartfulness, and through this workshop we will explore interpersonal and embodied practices to cultivate an awareness that is kind, accepting, and compassionate towards ourselves and others. In doing so, we invite the possibility of meeting the present moment – the only time we have for perceiving, learning, growing, and transforming – with fresh eyes and an open heart and mind.
Rebecca Bunn received her master’s in counseling from Northwestern University and prior to that, a Master’s in clinical developmental psychology from Tufts University. Rebecca specializes in mindfulness-based interventions, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT). In her private therapy practice, Rebecca works with individual adult clients on issues of emotion regulation, stress management, chronic illness and pain, and trauma and PTSD. Rebecca also teaches mindfulness to veterans with PTSD, traumatic brain injury, and/or who have experienced military sexual trauma through the Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center.
NOTE: This meeting is at Mallinckrodt Community Center, Wilmette.
