Women in Politics: The Difference They Make
March 27 @ 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
We will be located in the garden room 111A in today’s service.
Julie Strauss, Ph.D., will speak on the topic, Women in Politics: The Difference They Make. Running for office as a woman: it’s been called the highest glass ceiling. More women than ever sought the nomination in 2020 and more women have won seats in the U.S. Congress than ever before. We will delve into the unique aspects of their campaigns. We will discuss press coverage, voter perceptions and fundraising of female candidates. We will also discuss their impact on policies and on Congress as a whole. Join Julie Strauss for this stimulating discussion of the unique challenges faced by the female candidates running for office.
Dr. Julie Strauss is a lecturer on American politics. She has given talks in a variety of settings including Oakton Community College, various Jewish communities, North Shore Senior Center, retirement facilities, community groups and at several Road Scholar’s seminars at the Perlstein Resort in Wisconsin. She received her Ph.D. in American Politics from Northwestern University. Her dissertation examined the unique role that women members of Congress have had on public policy. Prior to entering graduate school, she spent two years on Capitol Hill working for elected officials.
Please remember: while we are meeting in person, we need to mutually trust that we will respect the risks to the most vulnerable and hold each other’s well-being as a shared priority. We ask you to wear your mask at all times and to use hand sanitizers often. To participate in refreshments you need to be fully vaccinated. Let us all keep each other safe!
